Ayurveda is a healing and health care system having treatment methods which concentrate on the patient, as well as the disease. This vast science had been classified into eight divisions, which are collectively called Ashtanga Ayurveda. This division enhances the understanding and practice of this science. Damstra Chikitsa or Visha Chikitsa is one of the eight divisions.
This stream of Ayurveda is also known as Agada Tantra. This branch can be considered equivalent to toxicology, and is the science of poisons.
The intoxication can be from different sources like plants, insects, birds or animals. Visha Chikitsa also deals with artificial poisons. Various pollutions like that of air and water are also explained in this.
Visha Chikitsa contains information regarding drugs and effects of certain foods. This also contains vital information regarding the fatal doses of different toxins. Ayurveda uses certain poisons as medicine, but only after some purification processes.
