Ayurveda is divided into eight sections, to enhance the understanding and practice of this science. Salakya Chikitsa is one of the eight divisions.
Treatment for the diseases related to eye, nose, ear and throat are coming under Salakya Chikitsa. Salaka means a rode or a probe, the excessive use of which had given this treatment system the name, Salakya Chikitsa. This branch can be considered similar to E.N.T and eye diseases in modern medicine.
Charaka Samhita, Susruta Samhita,and Ashtanga Hridya contain remedies for different problems related to eye. They contain home remedies, normal treatments as well as surgical procedures for curing diseases related to eye, nose, ear and throat.
Pancha Karma associated with this branch is Nasya (medication through nostrils).
