Research Confirms the Herb Bhringraj Can Cure Androgenetic alopecia ( Baldness )

The Herb Bhringraj (Eclipta Alba) is an important ingredient in Ayurveda medicines. The herb is primarily associated with treatment of hair loss and premature hair graying in Ayurveda. Research done on this (dated April 2008) confirms its hair care benefits. The study conducted at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. H. S. Gour University, Sagar, MP, 470 003, India, found that this herb can initiate and grow hair faster.

Significance of this research finding on Americans: 95% of baldness in men is caused by the Androgenetic alopecia. Two-thirds of American men, by the age of thirty-five, experience some hair loss in varying degrees. It is mistakenly thought that baldness is strictly male disease. But 40% of American hair loss sufferers are women. It is a devastating experience for women. It is because the disease directly affect their self esteem and emotional well being.

Knowledge Gained from the Research about the Herb Bhringraj:

• The research for was done to understand the effect of this herb on Androgenetic alopecia.
• Two components, petroleum ether and ethanol were extracted from the herb Bhringraj (Eclipta Alba).
• These components are primarily responsible for hair growth ability of the herb.
• To test the effectiveness of these components, they were applied on experimental rats.
• The hair on the skin of these rats were shaved initially.
• It was found that the time for the hair growth process to initiate reduced to half.
• This comparison was with respect to the normal time of hair growth initiation.
• The time required for the complete hair growth was also found to reduce significantly.
