If it is left untreated, the acid level in stomach will rise. It will cause the stomach material especially the acidic contents and undigested food particles to move into the alimentary canal with force and reach the mouth. If the process becomes frequent, it will cause irritation to the throat as pH of stomach acid is low with acute throat pain.

The problem occurs due to esophageal sphincter failure to close and poor eating habits. Acid reflux can cause chronic coughing, choking, difficulty swallowing, wheezing and hoarseness with severe heartburn and chest pain. A sore throat occurs mainly in the morning hours because laying on bed makes the way for acid to reach to esophagus easier.
