are also called piles. In this condition the veins around the anus or rectum are swollen or inflamed. Hemorrhoids are classified into 3 types depending on the place they occur:

Internal Hemorrhoids:

In internal hemorrhoids the veins inside the rectum are inflamed. They usually do not hurt the person. Symptom is rectal bleeding that is almost painless.

Prolapsed Hemorrhoids:

In this type veins stretch down until they bulge outside the anus. Veins can be pushed back inside or they may get back inside the rectum by their own.

External Hemorrhoids:

Here veins outside the anus are bulged or inflamed. They are painful. They cause cracks and bleeding in the areas surrounding the anus.

Causes of Hemorrhoids:

  • Straining movement of stool
  • Chronic constipation
  • Pregnancy
  • Aging
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Anal intercourse

How hemorrhoids are treated:

Initially symptomatic treatment is taken up that aim at relieving symptoms. Symptoms are reduced by:

  • Having tub baths 3 to 4 times a day in warm, plain water for 10 minutes
  • Applying anti-hemorrhoidal cream to the affected area for recommended time.
  • Changing dietary habits and including fiber rich foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
  • Drinking plenty of water, that is, more than 2 liters per day.

Home remedies for hemorrhoids:

  • Chew

    black mustard powder

    mixed with yogurt and drink a glass of buttermilk after that. This is a good, effective way to cure hemorrhoids.

  • Drink water used to soak

    pomegranate peels

    or drink decoction made of dried pomegranate peels. This heals hemorrhoid quickly. Take atleast 2 glasses of this solution for best results.

  • Taking goats milk mixed with carrot juice is another easy way to treat hemorrhoids.
  • Apply fresh radish juice externally to the affected area and leave for sometime. You can also mix some honey to the juice. This is one of the effective home remedies for hemorrhoids.
