Gallstones – About Gallbladder, Gallstones, Presentations, Symptoms

Gallstones

are the solidified particles that form from bile in the gallbladder.

The

gallbladder

is an organ of digestive system that lies just under the liver. It is a small sac-like organ in the upper right side of the abdomen. Located just below the rib cage, the gallbladder is usually strained dark green by the bile it contains. It is approximately 3 to 4 inches long and 1 inch wide.

The main function of the gallbladder is to concentrate the

bile

and store it. Bile is a vital secretion of digestive system. Bile emulsifies fats and neutralizes acids that form during the process of digestion. Bile that is stored in the gallbladder is produced out when fats enter the small intestine.
