Signs of Low Stomach Acid – What is Stomach Acid?

The acid produced in the stomach is called stomach acid. Here is the list of signs that you will experience if the acid in your stomach is low:

What is stomach acid:

Acid produced by the stomach is called stomach acid. Stomach produces hydrochloric acid or HCl to kill the unhealthy bacteria that are normally ingested with the food.This acid is a very important part of the digestive system. It maintains a low pH (acidic environment) in the stomach. It also activates the enzyme pepsin that breaks down proteins in the diet.

If the concentration of the acid is too low, a condition called hypochlorhdyria develops. When the acid in the stomach is almost nil, the condition is called achlorhyrdia. In this condition, there is abnormal growth of bacteria in the stomach with improper digestion.
