Constipation and Bloating – Causes and Remedies

Constipation and bloating are linked to various health disorders. Each and every individual from newborn to elderly suffer from these two conditions. It is ideal for a normal individual to experience 1 to 2 bowel movements per day. When these movements lack in a person, it is considered as constipation. Constipation leads to bowel disorders such as increase in number of intestinal and harmful bacteria. These bacteria become over-populated and a feeling of fullness is experienced in the stomach and the condition is called bloating. Constipation and bloating are the signs of an unhealthy digestive system.

Constipation and bloating Causes

  • Certain medications such as diuretics, antacids, sorbitol and iron supplements taken for other disease conditions may increase the intestinal gas problems. These problems lead to constipation followed by bloating.
  • Excess intake of foods such as potatoes, dairy products, milk, corn, chick peas, cabbage, onions, broccoli, lentils and beans in your diet can cause intestinal gas. This leads to constipation and bloating.
  • Lack of fiber rich food in your diet and nutrition deficiency can cause constipation. If you do not drink required amount of water sufficient for the body, constipation occurs followed by bloating.
  • Swallowing in air while drinking or eating can cause bloating. Also eating food hurriedly and cigarette smoking can cause more air to swallow. This results in accumulation of gas in stomach.
  • In pregnant women, the progesterone levels increase that affect the digestion process resulting in constipation.
  • Lack of physical activities may lead to these conditions.
  • Structural abnormalities in intestinal tract, rectum and anus can lead to constipation and bloating.
  • Intolerance to lactose, carbonated drinks, overeating and food poisoning can cause bloating
  • In infants, the insufficiency of fluids in the body can cause constipation.
  • Changes in regular diet, allergies and ignorance towards bowel movements can result in constipation.

Constipation and Bloating Remedies

  • Changes in lifestyle, medications help to relieve the consequences of constipation and bloating. Seek a doctor’s help if you experience change and trouble in bowel movements. Some of the remedies for constipation and bloating are as follows:
  • Drink plenty of water and fluids to get rid of gas, bloating and constipation. Also make a habit of doing regular exercises.
  • If you have an urge towards bowel movements, do not ignore.
  • Doctor may suggest laxatives to help relieve from constipation and bloating.
  • Consume food rich in fiber. Have fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and bran and especially ground flax seeds.
  • Asafoetida, olive oil, plums, apple cider vinegar, sesame seeds, honey and castor oil are very effective remedies for constipation and bloating.

    whats rong when i have to take a 6mg of relistor once a week just to have a bowel movement once a week.
