Gallbladder Attack Symptoms and Measures

Gallbladder is a pear shaped organ present below the liver. It secretes bile juice into the small intestine. Gallstones, cancers and polyps are the diseases associated with gallbladder. Gallstones develop in gallbladder when there is high cholesterol level in the diet we take. They cause intense pain and discomfort blocking the flow of bile juice. This condition is called gallbladder attack.

Most of the affected people will not be aware of the symptoms of gallbladder attack in the early stages. Gallbladder attack symptoms are mostly experienced by diabetics, older women, people who take high fat diet and overeating.

Gallbladder Attack Symptoms

A wide range of symptoms occur in people suffering from gallbladder attack. The symptoms may last for 15 minutes to 15 hours. The signs and symptoms include:

  • Vomiting, nausea and gas formation
  • Chest pain in the right side. The pain is caused due to the inflammation of gallbladder and stones in the bile duct
  • Inability to sit up straight and walk due to the intense pain
  • Gallbladder becomes painful to touch as it gets tender
  • Gallbladder attack is triggered if you take fatty and oily foods. The other foods that trigger gallbladder attack are some kind of nuts, onions, eggs, pork, beans, milk, alcohol intake, corn, oranges, grapefruits and coffee.
  • Pain is felt in the abdomen that may be sharp to dull. Most of the times, the pain generates even to the middle and between the shoulder blades. Pain is mostly felt at the night times.
  • Uneasiness, belching or burping
  • Severe upper abdominal pain
  • Feeling of bitterness in the mouth just after eating

Measures to Follow when you Observe Gallbladder Attack Symptoms

  • Firstly, as soon as you experience any gallbladder attack symptoms, lie down immediately on the bed or floor.
  • Lie down in such a way that the left side of the body lies on the top of the pillow. This would help you in releasing the pressure from gallbladder.
  • Sit on a high back chair. Raise your arms slowly and make them lean backwards against the chair. Sit in the same position until the pain subsides.
  • If you feel nauseated, try to vomit. Or-else try to have a bowel movement because the nauseated feeling may be triggered by the excess waste in the body.

Gallbladder attack symptoms, if accompanied by fever and chills, should be immediately reported to a physician. These symptoms if neglected may cause the whites of the eye and skin to turn yellow. Eventually the condition could lead to jaundice. Hence, you should seek medical professional help so that the gallbladder attack symptoms can be diagnosed and the correct line of treatment is provided.
