Intestinal Cancer – Signs and Symptoms of Intestinal Cancer

Intestinal cancer is the cancer of the large intestine and is a part of the digestive system. Every year, over10,000 people are diagnosed with cancer of the intestines. This usually develops from polyps and these are growth in the intestines that become cancerous. Intestinal cancer signs and symptoms are asymptomatic.

Intestinal Cancer Signs and Symptoms

The signs and symptoms of intestinal cancer are as follows:

  • Changes in the bowel habits that would last for more than four days and some of the specific changes are decreased stool thickness or diarrhea.
  • Blood specks after a bowel movement and the color of the blood is very dark red or bright red colored. This bleeding could lead to iron deficiency anemia.
  • This could result in fatigue and if blood is found for a long time then it could be a result of bleeding from the tumor.
  • This can lead to serious complications and so, consult your doctor immediately when you find blood in the stools from a long period of time.
  • Weight loss.
  • Abdominal discomfort that is usually prolonged.
  • Changes in the bowel habits habits can result in constipation and this could be a reason for the development of the colon. This results in the narrowing of the colon restricting the easy passage of stools.
  • Yellow-greenish discoloration of the skin.
  • Appearance of the stool changes and due to the tumor, the stool is thin and pencil like as it blocks the passage of stool.
  • Multiple bowel movements within a short period of time.
  • Stomach cramps is another sign that the cancer of the intestines is at an advanced stage.
  • In some cases, due to complete blockage one cannot pass stools.
  • Anemia because there is a chance that the tumor can bleed for many years without any signs and symptoms that can lead to anemia.

When you find the presence of blood in the stool or changes in the bowel movements then consult your doctor immediately as it could be a sign of a tumor growing in the intestine.
