Diagnosing Fecal Incontinence:

  • Anal manometry

Dietary Changes:

Depending on the type of stool that is causing the problem, the dietary changes have to be made. For instance, those who pass watery stools should prefer high fiber foods while those who cannot control hard stools must avoid high fiber foods. In both these cases, it is best if the person can avoid drinks like tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

  • Keep a diary.

    List all the foods and drinks that you consume on a daily basis. Doing this, you can identify which foods are actually causing a problem. Then, cut that food from the diet and monitor any changes.

  • Eat little at regular intervals.

    Instead of finishing dinner at one go, try consuming the same quantity in little amounts at regular intervals. This can ease the problem.

  • Eat high fiber foods.

    Consume vegetables, fruits and grains that are rich in fiber. Fiber foods produce soft stool making it easy to control bowel movement. If this leads to a problem, cut the amount of food consumed.

  • Drink water in plenty.
