Major Digestive Enzyme Supplements

Digestive enzymes secreted by our body are useful for breaking down complex compounds like sugars into more simpler ones in order to help with the digestion process.

Digestive enzyme supplements

are useful for those who lose the ability to secrete enzymes naturally, especially in those who begin to age. Let us look at some supplemental enzymes that help achieve an effective digestive process.

Major Digestive Enzyme Supplements:

The pancreas is the crucial digestive gland in the human body. Let us look at the important enzymes that are secreted by the pancreas useful for digestive purposes.

Amylase.

Secreted by the salivary glands, Amylase is useful for breaking complex starch compounds into much simpler sugars. A very useful supplement, this enzyme helps digest carbohydrates easily. Maltose, Glucose and limit-dextrins are the instances of hydrolysed glycogen, starch and dextrin.

Bromelain

.

This enzyme is extracted from pineapples and plays an important role in breaking down fibers like muscle fiber and collagen. Bromelain extract contains a mixture of sulfhydryl proteases and several other minutely occurring substances.

Cellulase.

This class of enzymes are secreted by fungi and bacteria. This class of enzymes act as a catalyst in enzyme oriented reactions and help in the breaking of cellulose into glucose. Usually called industrial enzymes, they play a huge role in the fermentation of biomass.

Lactase.

As the name suggests, this enzyme is abundantly found in milk and milk products like yogurt. This enzyme is crucial for the hydrolysis of lactose to glucose and galactose.

Lipase.

This enzyme is essential for breaking down the fats present in food making it easy for the intestines to absorb food. One of the most important enzymes secreted by the pancreas.

Pancreatin.

This enzyme is useful for the hydrolysis of fats and proteins.

Papain.

This enzyme is obtained from the papaya fruit in the form of dried latex. It is very useful for the digestion of proteins and milk-clotting. Also, any dead tissue can be digested by this enzyme without any harm caused to the adjacent live ones.

Pepsin.

It is found in the gastric juices secreted by the digestive system and is useful for degrading food proteins.

Along with the above mentioned digestive enzyme supplements, there are

trypsin

and

chymotrypsin

as well that play an important role in the digestion of proteins.
