Gall Bladder Back Pain

Back pain caused by a gallbladder disease is commonly referred to as “

Gall Bladder Back Pain

”. This particular back pain, which is mostly felt in the lower back, is often a symptom of a troubled gall bladder. This pain could be better understood if we understand the functions of the gallbladder.

The gallbladder is an important digestive organ. It is a small sac that is located beneath the liver. The main function of the gall bladder is to act as a store house of bile secreted from the liver. The bile is a brown yellowish liquid required for metabolizing foods especially fats. When the fat content in the foods we eat is more, the gallbladder contracts and discharges the bile into the small intestine so that it could act on the food.

If the diet contains too many fats, then undigested fat droplets could be freely available in the bile. The cholesterol, bile salts and bilirubin in the bile starts getting concentrated and makes the bile denser. Gradually, it can harden into solid pieces and form gallstones. The gallstones can block the bile duct which can cause infection and inflammation of the gallbladder. This condition is also known as Cholecystitis.

Gall bladder Back Pain is a characteristic symptom of an inflamed gall bladder. The other symptoms of gallbladder disease are indigestion, nausea, bloating, belching, dizziness and abdominal pain. This pain is mostly felt in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen. The pain is not localized and could radiate towards the lower back and to the right shoulder or between the shoulder blades. Intense back pain is often follows the ingestion of fatty foods. It almost all the time accompanies a gall bladder attack primarily due to the less tolerance towards cholesterol rich foods.

How to treat Gall Bladder Back Pain?

Since the back pain is induced essentially by a gallbladder disease, the only way to treat it is by treating the gall bladder problem. In most of the cases a persistent gall bladder problem is treated with surgery to remove the organ. This is known as Cholecystectomy. It could be done with a minimally invasive laproscopic procedure.
A diet which is high in fiber and less in fat is ideally advised. Liquids and water taken sufficiently can help flush the stones.
Hence, addressing the issues of an inflamed gall bladder immediately can resolve
